The GGSN / PDN Gateway (GPRS Gateway Service Node) is a key element of the packet core network, providing GTP-based data routing between the GPRS access network and external IP networks.

In addition to routing, the gateway participates in PDP context activation, performs authentication via RADIUS (which may act as part of PCEF in certain configurations), and interacts with DNS servers to assign IP addresses for requested APNs.

The gateway operates as an interface between the packet core and external packet data networks such as the Internet or corporate intranets, storing all necessary information on accessible networks and connection parameters.

The solution is fully compliant with 3GPP standards and supports GPRS, EDGE, UMTS, WCDMA and HSPA, with continuous evolution towards LTE/EPC and Wi-Fi multi-access scenarios.
